Weekly Game Breakdowns
Houston 22 Buffalo 19 (OT)
Our Picks: Buffalo (L) – Buffalo +3 (Push) – Under 43.5 (W )
Houston impressively came back from what seemed like an insurmountable deficit. The Bills led by 16 points late in the 3rd quarter. Houston stormed back in the 4th quarter to take a 3 point lead. Eventually, the Bills would even the game back up with a last second field goal, but the Texans would put the final 3 points on the board in overtime after a heroic play by Deshaun Watson to put Houston in field goal range. Throughout most of this game, I felt really good about my picks, as Buffalo seemed to be the sharper team. However, as the fourth quarter continued on, that comfort quickly disappeared. The Texans win gave us a loss on the straight up pick, losing by 3 points handed us a null and void push, but the low scoring affair secured the under.
New England 13 Tennessee 20
Our Picks: New England (L) – New England -4.5 (L) – Under 43.5 (W )
Of all the games being played this weekend, I was most confident in the Patriots winning this one. Despite the fact that they seemed more vulnerable this season than they have in the past, they’re still the Patriots and they always seem to find a way to win. Not on Saturday. The Titans were the better team on this Saturday Night in Massachusetts. The Pats were out coached, out played, and the dynasty comes to a potential end with the Tom Brady pick-six to end the game. With the Pats losing, I obviously lost both the straight up and spread pick here, but another low scoring game secured a win for our under pick.
New Orleans 20 Minnesota 26 (OT)
Our Picks: New Orleans (L) – Minnesota +8 (W ) – Under 49 (W )
This game was another classic playoff clash between the Saints and Vikings. There was back and forth scoring, plenty of defense, highlight plays, and of course, controversy. In the end, Kyle Rudolph secured the game winning touchdown catch in overtime to give the Vikings the win. Of course, many are arguing that Rudolph pushed off the defensive back to gain the advantage to make the catch. Based on how PI has been called this season, I can understand why the play was not overturned. However, based on how I bet this game, I think it was pass interference all day. The Minnesota win took down our straight up pick and dropped us to 0-3 with only 1 game left in the weekend. The Minnesota win did, however, secure the spread victory. This one ended up being closer than the others on the points total, but we wrapped up another victory on the totals by hitting the under.
Philadelphia 9 Seattle 17
Our Picks: Seattle (W ) – Seattle -2.5 (W ) – Under 46 (W )
Carson Wentz was the story in the final Wild Card game of the weekend. Wentz left the game with a head injury and was not able to return to play. No matter what Wentz does, he can’t seem to be able to play in the Eagles playoff games. It was a shame, because without Wentz, the Eagles couldn’t do a whole lot. Seattle controlled this game and won the low scoring affair by the exact same score these two teams played to earlier in the season. We ended up with a clean sweep on our picks in this one as the Seahawks won, covered, and the lack of points gave us a perfect 4-0 points totals record for the weekend.
